Annual Teddy Bear Toss fundraiser returns to campus

After being postponed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, one Cardinal fan favorite fundraiser is making a comeback at Lamar University just in time for the holidays. For the third year, LU Athletics’ basketball teams and local non-profit organization Some Other Place have teamed up to host the annual Teddy Bear Toss fundraiser. On Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m., Cardinal fans are encouraged to bring one new or gently used stuffed animal to toss onto the Montagne Center court at half-time. Bins also will be available at each game for toy donations. teddy-bear-toss

“There are a lot of people in need in our community and this fundraiser is our way of giving back,” said Marco Born, LU athletics director. “We are proud to partner with our local charity Some Other Place to give back to those that may not be able to buy toys for their children this Christmas.”

Once Cardinal fans have showered the floors with teddy bears, both LU basketball teams will then donate the furry friends to Some Other Place to be distributed to children in the community.

Founded in 1968 to assist Beaumont residents with emergency needs, Some Other Place serves as a haven for the homeless and offers services free of charge including home delivered meals, school clothing and supplies, and special Christmas assistance to children of local families.
