Nursing program ranked among best in Texas

Nursing Schools Almanac has ranked the Lamar University JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing among 2021’s best prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs in the state.

Institutions are ranked based upon data collected over an extensive time from each program’s NCLEX-R.N. licensure exam pass rate among first-time test-takers. The JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing ranked No. 22 out of 48 total Texas institutions evaluated. In 2020, spring graduates exceeded the national first-time pass rate on the NCLEX-RN national licensing exam with a 97% pass-rate for spring graduates. nursing-almanac-logo.png

“We are very proud of this ranking. My nursing faculty have given 110% and our nursing students have given 110%,” said Dr. Cynthia Stinson, associate professor and department chair of nursing. “It has truly been a team effort not only with nursing faculty, but also with our nursing students and administration.”

The JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing as well as online tracks, R.N.-B.S.N. and R.N.-M.S.N. for registered nurses who are practicing, but don’t have a bachelor’s degree.  LU also has a Master of Science in Nursing online program specializing in nursing administration and nursing education as well as a dual M.B.A./M.S.N. degree option.
