Dion Tran receives Texas Business Hall of Fame Ben J. Rogers Scholarship

Entrepreneur and senior accounting major Dion Tran was selected by the Texas Business Hall of Fame as the 2021 recipient of the Ben J. Rogers scholarship.

“This award means the world to me. Coming from a low-income family, there was never anything that I could truly call my own,” Tran said. “With my business and the Ben J. Rogers scholarship, it feels as if all of my hard work for my business is being rewarded and a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.”

Annually, the TBHF awards scholarships to future business leaders and entrepreneurs from Texas universities and Tran is among 31 students selected across the state. Each award recipient is invited to attend the annual TBHF Scholar and Veteran Award Luncheon and Induction Dinner where they also will be recognized for their entrepreneurial spirit and awarded a $15,000 scholarship to use at their discretion. dion-tran

Tran is the co-founder of online embroidery company K.Creates overseeing the inventory, social and financial aspects of the business.  “With the funds obtained, we hope to purchase an embroidery machine so that we're able to take on more orders and focus our efforts on furthering expansion,” he said. “I also hope that through the connections I have made in obtaining this award I can assist other small entrepreneurs in Southeast Texas.”

Lamar University’s participation in the Texas Business Hall of Fame Scholars and Veterans awards program is made possible through the Ben J. Rogers Scholarship, endowed by Regina Rogers, daughter of Ben J. Rogers. Through the years, Regina has been a strong supporter of Lamar University and the College of Business, where she endowed the Ben J. Rogers Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies within the College of Business, held by professor and director of the School of Accounting and Information Systems Dr. Donald Warren Jr., and Ben J. Rogers Outstanding Business Student Award, presented annually at the College of Business Spring Honors Awards Convocation. Additionally, she supports LU through the Julie and Ben Rogers Community Service Award.
