LU recognizes ‘Seniors of Significance’

Twenty Lamar University students graduating May 2021 were honored as “Seniors of Significance” during a “Toast to Leadership” award ceremony on the 8th Floor of the Mary and John Gray Library, April 7.

The 2021 Seniors of Significance represent all five undergraduate colleges at LU and were tapped for theirSeniors of Significance positive impact on the LU campus, their individual academic fields, their acts of service and their academic achievements.

“The Lamar University Seniors of Significance was created by the Division of Student Engagement in 2016 and recognizes those seniors for excellence in scholarship, leadership and community service and for bringing distinction to Lamar University,” said Vicki McNeil, vice president of Student Engagement.

Dr. Kenneth Evans, president of Lamar University, presented each student with an award and congratulated them personally.

“These young people have learned the invaluable lessons gained through campus leadership - communication, negotiating, compromise, teamwork, to name a few,” said Evans, who addressed the seniors during the ceremony. “As a result, it’s likely they will be tapped out in their workplaces and in their communities to take on leadership positions, and we couldn’t be prouder of their hard work, effort and determination, not to mention the significant impact they’ve had during their time at LU.”
