LU student is one of 26 to win an Optimal scholarship

Elijah Coleman, a sophomore political science major from Houston, has been award a higher education scholarship by Optimal.  Coleman plans to attend law school, hoping to one day become a civil lawyer or Optimal Logomedical lawyer. Coleman cares deeply about pursuing justice on other peoples’ behalf, wanting to defend those who are in vulnerable positions and unable to help themselves.

“I am extremely grateful for this blessing and will use the scholarship to help pay for school, since I was struggling with that prior to this," said Coleman.

Optimal created its needs-based scholarship program in 2010 to further its mission to increase accessibility to higher education. Every year the company awards $250,000 to assist 50 students with strong career aspirations and high financial need. The company awards quarterly scholarships for the following categories: community college scholarship, military scholarship, undergraduate scholarship, and graduate scholarship.

“Despite the barriers and challenges our award winners have faced, they are all driven to leverage their educational opportunities as a tool for positive change for their families and communities,” said Optimal in a news release announcing the winners. “We are inspired by their vision and honor their determination and perseverance. Like our scholarship winners, Optimal understands that education is more than just a degree or a certificate; it is the foundation for a better future.”
