LU Student Sebastian Watler awarded fueling careers scholarship

Lamar University proudly announces Sebastian Watler has been awarded the 2020 Fueling Careers Sebastian WatlerScholarship.

Every year, CDK Global, Inc. and the National Association of Minority Automobile Dealers join together to award four students $12,500 scholarships.

"With the Fueling Careers Scholarship program, we are finding young, minority leaders who are setting the example for the next generation by demonstrating educational excellence at every level," said Damon Lester, president of NAMAD.

Watler, a freshman from Port Arthur, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in M.E.chanical engineering and plans to use the scholarship to better focus on school without having so much financial strain.

“I was unaware of the scholarship until my stepdad, who works for a car dealership, told M.E. about it and how much I could possibly earn from it,” said Sebastian Watler, who hopes to graduate in 2024. “I’m really excited to be a recipient this year.”

"Each of the scholarship winners possesses the characteristics CDK and NAMAD have valued since establishing the Fueling Careers Scholarship Program in 2017,” says Brian Krzanich, president and chief executive officer, CDK Global. “CDK is honored to play a small role in supporting these students as they continue learning the necessary skills to achieve success in their respective future careers."

To be eligible for a Fueling Careers scholarship, applicants must be planning – or currently attending – an accredited college or university, have a parent employed by a NAMAD dealership, and must be sponsored by a current NAMAD M.E.mber. The site for applications for next year’s scholarships will be open on January 3, 2021. For more information about the scholarship winners, visit https://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2020/09/01/9212299.htm.
