Department of Music announces new faculty

The Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music is pleased to announce the appointment of Brielle Frost and Nairam Simões as faculty members for the 2019-2020 academic year.

and given master classes throughout the United States, Peru, Brazil, Italy, Costa Rica and Canada. As an orchestral musician, she is a substitute player with the Symphony of Southeast Texas and has previously performed with the Valley Symphony Orchestra (TX), Steamboat Symphony Orchestra (CO), Topeka Symphony Orchestra (KS), Midland-Odessa Symphony Orchestra (TX) and the Colorado Dance Theatre Company (CO), as well as been a featured soloist with the Opus Chamber Ensemble (TX) and the Bailey Bach Festival (CO). She is a founding member of the Ambrosia Flute Trio, which has performed and given master classes throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Nevada, Louisiana and Peru. Frost actively presents performances, clinics and lectures at conventions of the National Flute Association, Texas Music Educators Association, College Music Society Conference and the American Single Reed Summit.

Prior to her appointment at Lamar University, Frost served on the faculty at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley and Western State Colorado University. She holds a Doctor of Art degree from the University of Northern Colorado, a master of music degree from the University of Missouri and a bachelor of music degree from the University of Northern Iowa.

Nairam Simões will join the department as an instructor of trumpet and will be teaching applied trumpet lessons, studio classes, chamber music and high brass methods. Originally from Brazil, Simões enjoys a multifaceted international career as a performer, music educator and clinician with a wealth of knowledge particularly in chamber music and Brazilian music. Prior to his appointment at Lamar, he served as lecturer of trumpet at Texas A&M-Kingsville.

As an active performer, Simões has played with many of the Midwest’s finest ensembles including the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Lexington Philharmonic, Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Queen City Opera, among others. As a chamber musician he has played with Canterbury Brass, Infinity Brass Quintet (with members of Empire Brass), Wright State Faculty Brass Quintet, Brazilian Trumpet Ensemble and many others.

Simões holds a doctorate of musical arts degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, a master of music degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a bachelor of music degree from the University of Memphis.
