LU tapped a top military-friendly online college

In a list recently compiled by online education research publisher SR Education Group, Lamar University was named as meeting the qualifications to be considered a top military-friendly online college.

SR Education Group began publishing this annual list in 2013 in to help military students make informed decisions about their education and to help them find schools that have respectable programs in their desired field and are also willing to work with these unique students’ non-traditional needs.

To be considered, each accredited program must offer at least 10 distinct online degree programs. From there, school are evaluated on four key factors vital to the support and success of Military students: military culture, online support, financial aid, and flexibility. Only schools that scored a 65 or better on the evaluation were considered high enough quality to make the list, and of the 500 programs evaluated, only 60 scored high enough to be considered top military-friendly colleges.

“We try to stay updated on all the new things that are awarded to students and we go to conferences to stay updated with the latest information that is out there on them,” said Norma Cumbaa, coordinator for Lamar’s Office of Veteran Affairs. “We put our veterans first and try to take care of them as best we can.”
