Online counseling degree ranks No. 2 in nation

Lamar University’s online Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling scored second place in onlinecolleges.net’s “Best Online Master’s in Counseling 2016” which considers colleges and universities across the United States.

LU’s online program is among the lowest in tuition, and enrolled students may be eligible for a $10,000 grant toward tuition from the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration.

Projections for growth in the career field are strong according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics with counselor and social worker jobs projected to grow 19 percent between 2012 and 2022, well above the 11 percent average growth for all occupations.

Statistics show that professional counselors who hold a master’s degree tend to earn a higher salary than people who only hold a bachelor’s degree. LU’s program prepares students for mental health/clinical settings, offers intensive coursework to allow completion in as few as 30 months, and even provides two residencies to help students launch their careers.
