Texas Education Agency (TEA) has implemented new certifications and changes to the following certification areas effective January 1, 2021:

The new STR (293) exam will launch January 1, 2021; the “New” EC-6 Core Subjects exam (391) exam will also launch on January 1, 2021.

The Core Subjects EC–6 #291 exam is available through December 31, 2021 to provide additional opportunities to test for candidates whose first attempt was before January 01, 2021, but did not pass all subtests.
A passing score on the TExES #291 exam can be used for certification issuance of the Core Subjects with the Science of Teaching Reading and EC-12 PPR: EC-6 no later than December 30, 2022.
Note that TExES #291 and #391 are separate exams, and passing scores on the subject exams of #291 cannot be combined with passing scores on the #391 exam.

Lamar University will do our part to recommend you for your Standard Certificate with TEA once you have met the requirements above by the deadline. It is the candidate's responsibility to complete the application with BOTH Lamar University and TEA to obtain the Standard Certification by the deadline.
Do not miss these windows for your applications, because no exceptions will be granted by Lamar or TEA for late applicants.
