An Unhinged Experiment in Material Processes

An Unhinged Experiment in Material Processes is a series of five large-scale oil paintings, each measuring four by seven feet. Created through a blend of traditional canvas-stretching techniques and continuous experimentation with oil media and pigments, the series emphasizes material exploration as much as narrative. The paintings are physically connected by three hinges, forming a hexagonal structure with an open interior. Viewers are invited to step inside and observe hidden drawings on the reverse side of the canvases thereby turning the act of viewing into an immersive experience.

Each work draws from characters and themes in The Odyssey, using the classic hero’s journey as a framework to explore ideas of resilience and overcoming adversity. Influenced by the Abstract Expressionist movement, this series embraces expressive gestures, non-objective forms, and a bold command of composition to reject literal representation in favor of emotional and conceptual depth.
