Business:
  • CVEN Advanced Course electives
  • Allows undergraduate students to take graduate courses as electives
  • Fulfills undergraduate degree plan requirements as well as counting towards a graduate degree.

CVEN 1201 added to replace 1101 which no longer exists
  • Motion to approve Kami; Seconded by Alberto; Motion approved unanimously.
CVEN 4212 and 4312
  • 4212 being implemented to reduce the number of hours on the degree plan in the fall of 2019
  • Will take the place of 4312 in 2021 to allow current students to complete course work under the degree plan they started with.
  • Pre-reqs have changed. Students must pass four out of the five listed courses as possible pre-reqs. CVEN 4212 will begin being taught in the fall 2019
  • Need to add a note in the syllabus about the pre-req stipulation above and the advisors will be the ones to deal with tracking which four out of five courses the students need depending upon what their major is actually.
  • Course description on the face sheet and syllabus do not match.
  • Judy made a motion to approve the course with the above outlined changes; Larry seconded; Motion approved unanimously.
CVEN Degree Plan
  • Courses were realigned to better balance the semester hours required each semester.
  • CVEN 2301 has been a pre-req for MEEN 2302 and CVEN 2302. MEEN recently created MEEN 2301 to be a pre-req in their track but up to now CVEN 2301 was a pre-req in both tracks of study.
  • Question raised about lower division courses being moved to Junior and Senior levels but all of these courses were noted to be core curriculum courses such as POLS 2301, POLS 2302, science elective, etc.
  • Need to add a note at the bottom of the degree plan to explain that if the SAT math score is less than 600, that additional math courses may be required and also list the mandatory courses to meet this requirement.
  • CVEN 3310 no longer begin taught; was converted to CVEN 3311 to match common course numbering system.
  • Motion to approve with clarifying the points addressed above Judy; Qin seconded. Motion unanimously approved
Degree Plan Environmental Science
  • CVEN 3310 dropped as it is no longer taught; was replaced with BIOL 3450
  • There was a reduction in the number of required electives from four to three, to maintain a total of 120 credit hours for the degree.
  • All other CVEN courses require calculus as a pre-req which is an inappropriate math for Biology majors.
  • BIOL 3450 is plant biology which is essential to understanding ecosystem function
  • Need to make a note at the bottom of the degree plan that any additional hours of biology beyond core hours required for the degree may be applied to other degree requirements.
  • Motion to approve with clarifying of the points addressed above by Kami; Seconded by Larry; Motion approved unanimously.
BIOL 1308 developed for non-majors
  • Max repeat hours on face sheet need to be zero.
  • Judy motioned to approve with change above; Stefan seconded; approved unanimously.
BIOL 1108 developed lab for non-majors

  • Course numbering changed to be in line with common course numbering
  • Motion to approve as written by Larry; Seconded by Kami; unanimously approved.
SOCI 3320
  • Missing office hours and pre-reqs on the syllabus
  • Pre-reqs lack clarity and needs more specific information as it currently says SOCI 1301 or any social science course but does not list courses that would be acceptable as a pre-req.
  • The Grading narrative explanation states that discussions will be worth 1/3 of their final grade. In the breakdown that follows it says they are worth 50% of the grade.
  • Kami made a motion to send the syllabus back to the department for clarification on the items above; Judy seconded; motion approved.
ENGL 4311
  • Need clarification regarding pre-requisites that state or any sophomore literature class
  • Again need to have a listing of what courses will satisfy this requirement as a pre-req.
  • Motion made to approve with requested clarification notation by Judy; Larry seconded and motion approved unanimously.
ENGL 4332
  • Deans signature not on the face sheet
  • Needs same clarification as noted above regarding lit courses as options to satisfy the pre-req component.
  • Motion to table and send back to the department for proper approval and clarification as noted above by Judy; Seconded by Kami: Approved unanimously.
ENGL 4351
  • Issues same as above.
  • Three courses were combined to make a Special Topics course.
  • Students cannot take the same section of the Special Topics course more than three times.
  • Question regarding max repeat hours needs clarification
  • Course description is not reflective of the changes to a Special Topics class.
  • Motion to table and send back to the department for proper approval and clarifications/changes as noted above by Judy; Seconded by Barbara: Approved unanimously.
Math Memo
  • The major requirements have been reduced by one math elective course in all tracks except teaching tracks. The course has been moved to the general electives category.
  • MATH 3322 pre-req has been changed from MATH 2414 to  MATH 2414 or MATH 3311 MATH 3311 is better preparatory course for required for elementary education majors
  • Deleted MATH 2305; replaced with MATH 3311 in Mathematics teacher tracks
  • Changes were also made in the curriculum for math minors. Courses renumbered to meet common class numbering guidelines such as MATH 3328 changed to MATH 2318, etc.
  • A Degree plan change is also being made to accept either MATH 3350 or 3351
  • Motion to approve proposed changes by Barbara; Kami seconded; unanimously approved.
Math Degree Plans
  • Core hours to equal 42. MATH core course needs to move to the core requisite area to bring that number up to 42.
  • Need to add a note at the bottom of each plan regarding what additional MATH courses that may be used as counting towards core.
  • Motion made by Barbara to approve the degree plans with the above requested revisions; Kami seconded; motion approved
MATH Minor Degree Plan
  • Reviewed. Larry made a motion to approve it as written; Stefan seconded; unanimously approved.

As a note of clarification anytime course numbers are changed that have an effect on an approved degree plan, it requires committee review and final approval through the Board of Regents.
