New Business:

Given the advent of the Concourse Template in Blackboard, the requirements for review of the Syllabi were revised by Michael Saar and were presented for review by the committee. The new and old format were presented as part of the review to compare and contrast the differences

  • Motion to approve the new updated version was made by Barbara; Seconded by Judy and, approved unanimously by the committee.


Department Curriculum Committee Representatives were welcomed to the meeting

  • Dr. Tindall from Communications and Media presented two changes in B.S. Degree plans within the department B.S. in General Communication Degree Plan
    • General elective hours decreased from 18 to 15 hours.
    • Just needs to submit a deletion form for those taken out of the degree plan and an addition form if any alternative classes were added to facilitate the change
    • Judy made a motion to approve with the correct forms being sent; Barbara seconded; Motion approved unanimously
  • B.S. in Public Relations Degree Plan
    • General electives remain at 18 hours
    • Communication Core Courses were increased from 27 to 30 hours
    • Public Relations Core Course were decreased from 33 to 30
    • General University Core Courses remained at 42 hours for a total of 120 hours for the degree.
    • Serdar made a motion to approve the changes; Larry seconded the motion and motion was unanimously approved.

Business:
COMM 3372

  • Course content outline for the course was not included.
  • Judy made a motion to approve the course once the addition of the course content outline has been made; Kami seconded the motion; motion was unanimously approved.

COMM 3335

  • Course was added and increased to a Junior level class
  • Takes the place of entry level course COMM 2335 which is being deleted from the program.
  • Motion to approve changes as submitted: Barbara; Seconded by Serdar; Motion approved unanimously.
MULT 3330
  • Course was added and increased to a Junior level class
  • Takes the place of entry level course which is being deleted from the program.
  • Need to make sure the course has been appropriately leveled
  • Barbara made a motion to approve the course change providing leveling of content has occurred; Kami seconded; Motion approved unanimously.
SPHS 3320
  • Max repeat hours need to be checked and confirmed
  • Pre-requisites are not listed on the syllabus
  • Motion to approve with clarifying the points addressed above; Barbara seconded. Motion unanimously approved
SPHS 3324 Course Addition
  • Max repeat hours need to be checked and confirmed
  • Pre-requisites are not listed on the syllabus
  • Motion to approve with clarifying of the points addressed above by Judy; Seconded by Serdar; Motion approved unanimously.
Engineering
  • Clarified that the two attempts policy needed to be removed from the following course change forms:
    • CHEN 3340
    • INEN 2360
    • INEN 2373
    • INEN 3380
    • INEN 4323
    • INEN 4350
    • Motion was made to include a policy note to remove two attempts from any future Engineering Syllabi to be reviewed by Judy; Mamta seconded. Motion unanimously approved.
ELEN 2411
  • Course change syllabus needs major edits
  • Motion to table and send back to the department for clarification by Mamta; Seconded by Judy; unanimously approved.

ELEN 4361

  • Added a math 3370 requirement to add rigor to the degree
  • Pre-requisite of ELEN 3421 is missing on the Syllabus
  • Remove the word tentative from the Grading section
  • Motion to approve with requested changes by Barbara; seconded by Serdar; unanimously approved.
ELEN 3313
  • Fix max repeat hours to zero
  • Added a Math pre-requirement of MATH 3370
  • Course description does not match between the face sheet and the syllabus
  • Pre-reqs not listed in the syllabus do not match with the face sheet.
  • No grading scale included in the syllabus
  • No other course in the program seem to require all of the math courses listed on this syllabus as pre-requisites.
  • Motion made to table further discussion and to return the syllabus back to the department for clarification of the above items by Judy; Barbara seconded and motion approved unanimously.
ELEN 4206
  • Max repeat hours need to be zero
  • Grading Scale currently has overlapping numbers such as 90-100 and 80-90. Needs to read 90-100 A; 80-<90 B; 70-<80, etc.
  • Motion to approve syllabus with corrections by Judy; Barbara seconded; motion approved unanimously.
ELEN 4207
  • Max repeat hours need to be zero
  • Moved to fall of senior year
  • Grading scale has overlapping grades that need to be clarified to remove the redundancy.
  • Motion to approve with corrections by Judy; Barbara seconded; motion approved unanimously
ELEN 3371
  • Pre-requisites need to be changed and aligned between the face sheet and the syllabus
  • Max repeat hours need to be zero
  • Motion to approve with the minor revisions requested by Judy; Barbara seconded; motion approved unanimously
ELEN 3421
  • Pre requisites need to match between the face sheet and the syllabus currently only says that MATH 3370 was added on the face sheet without listing the others included in the syllabus
  • Max repeat hours need to be zero
  • At the top of the first page of the syllabus need to add the word pre-requisites and make sure that they match with the face sheet.
  • Grading scale missing from syllabus
  • Missing percentages and weights of how much each assignment is worth toward the final grade in the course.
  • Motion to approve with the requested revisions completed by Judy; Barbara seconded; motion unanimously approved
MEEN 4319
  • Pre-requisites need to be added to course catalog
  • Typo on the face sheet needs to be corrected from saying CHEM 1411 to saying CHEM 1311.
  • Do students need to take the CHEM lab in addition to the CHEM 1311 course and if so it needs to be clarified.
  • Motion to table approval and to send back to the department for clarification by Judy; Kami seconded; motion approved.
COMM 2371
  • Removed the pre-requisites
  • Motion to approve as written Barabara; Kami seconded; Motion unanimously approved.
COMM 3326
  • Pre-requisites were added
  • Course may be repeated one time not three
  • Typo needed correcting on pre-requisites from COMM 1371 to COMM 1373
  • Motion to approve with the changes by Serdar; Seconded by Judy; unanimously approved.
ARTS 3371
  • Scheduled class hours is three
  • Contact hours are listed as 30 lecture and 30 lab hours which would make it more than a three hour course between lecture and lab. One needs to be weighted heavier such as 30 lecture/15 lab.
  • Kami motioned to approve the syllabi with requested clarification on the hours; Larry seconded and the motion was unanimously approved.
