Call to Order: 3:35 p.m.

Approval of Minutes: Deferred 

Discussion: Michael Saar introduced himself as the Chair Pro-tem and ask all those in attendance to introduce themselves to the group for the benefit of newly elected members.


Call for election of Officers:

Chair: Michael Saar self-nominated and approved by acclamation

Chair-elect: no candidates-remains vacant

Secretary: Judy Smith self-nominated and approved by acclamation

At one time there were three subcommittees attached to UUCC which included:

  • Curriculum Proposal group to look at college specific issues
  • Policy and By-laws group
  • Core curriculum assessment group to look at any changes being made in the core curriculum
  • Michael proposed that these subcommittees be reinstated. No vote was taken.

Review of things that need to be considered in order to be placed on the November TSUS Board Meeting agenda included:

  • Changes to math sciences for the degree plans for the Music department. They will accept in

addition to Math 1314: Math 1332, Math 1342 and PSYC 2317 for the Bachelor of Arts in Music,  

Bachelor of Music in Composition, Bachelor of Music in Performance, and Bachelor of Music

Leading to Teacher Certification.

  • Motion to approve: Judy Smith as written:

  • Approved by acclamation.

 

  • PSYC 3370 Addition and title change to Advanced Child Psyc.
    • David Short noted number confusion issue as in other places this same course is considered a 2000 level course. Had voiced concerns about course credit transfer issues.
    • In the syllabus the instructor needs to add the following statement before the expected outcomes stated: Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
    • Grading scale said 700 total points in one place and 500 total points in another place. Needs to be consistent.
    • Michael Saar will take this back to the department to see about adjusting the course number.

  • CVEN 2270: Course deleted and change to CHEN 2370 that was already approved.

  • ELEN 2411
    • Max repeat should be listed in hours not in the number of times the course can be repeated. Same issue with all engineering syllabi. Or, it may need to be changed on the form to read as: # of max attempts as opposed to hours.
    • ELEN 1301 listed as a pre-requisite for the course but does not appear on the B.S. degree plan as a requirement for graduation.
    • Want to add ELEN 1100 as a pre-requisite
    • Special needs: should read Disability Resource Center; Academic Dishonesty is actually Academic Honesty (these problems should be resolved when using Concourse Syllabus platform in Blackboard.
    • Needs to be stated somewhere that the course requires a grade of C or better in no more than two attempts to clarify their policy on repeats.
    • All ELEN courses need to be reviewed by the department for clarification regarding the max repeat hours issue.
    • Motion made for consistency to occur by consolidating pending approval of all ELEN courses once the max repeat/grade replacement decision is made by the department and is correct on the Syllabi: Judy Smith

    • Michael Saar will discuss with the Graduate Council that uses the same form to submit syllabi for review to seek clarification of how they interpret the intent of the max hours/repeats for the syllabi.
  • ELEN 3431: Same issue with max repeat
  • MEEN 3350: Check of max repeat hours and co req of MEEN 3320
    • Motion to approve with requested clarifications: Judy Smith

Some discussion followed noting that Chairs of individual college curriculum committees should be invited to meetings as ex-officio members:

Education wants to make some substantive changes to SPED 3372. This needs to be on the Board agenda in November. There is a full packet of information that needs to be reviewed before the additional meeting on October 1, 2018 at 3:30 pm in Reaud Room 202. B.S. in Teacher Education degree plans Packet is on the shared drive under 2018 1001 meeting.
