Approval of Minutes: Judy Smith made a motion to approve the minutes of the last meeting. Debbie Troxclair seconded the motion, and minutes were unanimously approved.

S. Chem. Engineering degree plan: has been withdrawn at this time.

ELEN 4315

  • Max repeat hours not filled in on face sheet. Will check with department but probably should be set at zero
  • Several references refer to Blackboard as opposed to new name LU Learn
  • Appears to be a hybrid/on-line course combined in one syllabus-need to make separate syllabus for each section for student clarity.
  • Pre-reqs and co-reqs listed on face sheet missing on the syllabus but did have a co-req in the syllabus that was not listed on the cover sheet.
  • Last Learning Outcome seems to be missing a verb
  • There are non-standard APA reference to the textbook on page one.
  • Quizzes are not listed in the calendar but are calculated into the final grade
  • No penalties are listed in the Academic Honesty policy section

COMM 3345
  • Instructor listed private cell phone numbers for afterhours contact. Needs to use school e-mail address instead.
  • Activity Type One not filled out on the cover sheet.
  • Office room number not listed for faculty
  • Pre-reqs specify senior standing but the course is only a 3000 level.
  • Running head on all pages stated COMM 4345 or 4396-may have been left there from taking a prior course and revising the syllabus.
  • Page 3: question was raised regarding the calculation of 700 points for class discussions but only 6 actual discussions were discussed in the syllabus. Weeks seven and eight were devoted to a class assignment.

  • Title for class awkwardly phrased; suggested it should read Communication 3330
  • Office room number 200 listed for the Setzer Student Center. Question whether that will be the correct room number since the re-construction is not finished as yet.

  • Needs to use the word cite as opposed to the attribute in the second line from the end of the Academy Honesty policy.

COMM 3351
  • Instructor included personal information for booking appointments (SACS and State regs want only University information included on the syllabus as opposed to personal information. Students should be able to go to LU Learn info but it is not in the syllabus.
  • Readings posted on Twitter and LU Learn-Does not need to be in both mediums. Should be posted on LU Learn for student convenience.
  • Outcomes need to be specific and measureable
  • Assignments deadlines: 3rd sentence needs to state “If you miss the deadline…”

  • Course overview says it looks at art through the late 21st century which has not occurred yet; should probably be the late 20th
  • On the third bullet of the Student Learning Outcomes, should the word movement be plural.

  • Required readings say (many to be posted on LU Learn (not blackboard): question was raised if the resources listed were whole textbooks, parts of books, etc.

  • What textbooks do the students need to purchase? Could place a link to the whole book instead. Or, perhaps say that the readings may be drawn from the books.
  • Theresa Hefner-Babb will review the book situation and get back with Boyd Lanier on what she finds.

ARTS 3320 and 3321
  • Same instructor teaches both courses and the syllabi had similar problems

  • 45 contact hours = 15 lecture and 30 for lab in a combined lecture lab (need to be sure that this is the correct contact hours allocation

  • Same instructor teaches the three courses and the syllabi had similar problems

  • Improper textbook citation format; no publisher or ISBN numbers were included in the list of textbooks

  • DRC policy needs to be updated to current verbiage.
  • Needs to say LU Learn as opposed to Blackboard
  • Shouldn’t students be referred to check both Lamar and course email?
  • ARTS 3338 grade calculation adds up to 105%.
  • There is a course website on weebly.com which is a host site for blogs which is outside of Lamar’s jurisdiction. Questioned whether this could be done through LU Learn instead.

  • Questioned whether the lab and lecture hours are truly equal; weeks 9 and 14 do not have an associated lab.

  • On syllabus it says the mailbox is the Art office but needs a PO Box number included.
  • Dates of textbooks are more than 17-20 years old; Question whether these are classic texts or whether there are newer editions of the books.

  • On cover sheet listed max repeats as 5, but 15 hours is actually equal to 6 times; May need to be changed to 12 hours = 5 times
  • Activity not filled out on face sheet-Questioned whether this should be flagged as Individual Study.

  • The course description in the syllabus contains an extra statement. Should probably separate out that extra statement as additional information
