Research Council Meeting Minutes
November 7, 2022, at 1:00 PM
Science and Technology Bldg Room 275

Attendees: Jerry Lin, Kurt Dyrhaug, Mamta Singh, and Matthew Hoch

Not in attendance: Chunda Chen, Amy Smith, Alyse Jordan and Maryam Hamidi

Meeting called to order at 1:02 pm, by Dr. Jerry Lin

I. Approval of October 2022 meeting minutes
a. Motion to approve by Dr. Hoch
b. Second motion to approve by Dr. Singh

II. Project closure and transition for separated principal investigators
a. Principle investigators with external research funding who have separated from LU must
complete project transition. ORSPA can facilitate the process.

i. The Research Council agreed to initiate communication with Lamar University
Human Resources to add research program transition to the exit form

III. Internal competition of common grants opportunities
a. Select grant programs limit the number of proposals that can be submitted by an
institution.
b. The chance of a proposal being awarded diminished when an institution submits
multiple proposals to the same grant program at the same time.
c. In addition to NSF MRI program internal competition, more internal competitions will be
arranged for ensuring the strongest proposal is submitted.

IV. Roundtable
a. University-level research courses are discussion – the course would be beneficial for
McNair Scholars Program, Honors College and for students who participate in
undergraduate research
b. Future review assignments for issues pertinent to research operations in the areas of
research integrity, export control and internal competitions.
