Meeting called to order at 1:00 pm by Dr. Jerry Lin

I. Approval of September 2021 Research Council Meeting minutes

a. Open minutes by Jerry Lin, at 1:09 pm

b. Motion to approve provided by Ana Christensen and Mamta Singh.

II. Review of draft policies and procedure for project closeouts – For our final decision, we will vote in our upcoming December 2021 meeting.

a. PIs are not aware of outstanding procedures for Closeout. LU has created formal documentation for Finance, Research and Post Award office, which will need to certify if the project is closed.

b. Program closeout mechanism is to assist in the final stages of project proposed:

i. Timeline, procedures, capture spending, performance, patent and distribution

ii. Research agreement

III. TSUS Christmas Mountain Field Station

a. Donor donated 10 acres of land for opportunities in the educational and research field. Land is located near Big Ben National Park.

b. Nominations for committee members are currently ongoing.

IV. Roundtable

a. Naming competition for Makerspace in the S&T Building – the Bird House

i. Mechanical Engineering student won 1st place.

b. Support for grant development and instrumental analysis.

i. Completion will close on January 19, 2022.

c. MRI internal competition is open – Due November 11, 2021

d. Annual external grant performance

i. $ 1.3 million dollars in FY19.

ii. $ 2.1 million dollars in FY20.

iii. $ 4.0 million dollars is in FY21.

e. Your input to promote research production at LU.

i. Increase number of PIs for grants.

ii. Target research in specific granting opportunities.

iii. All in favor of writing a competition grant for student level competition which will include the university’s visibility.

iv. NASA grant opportunities will be emailed to committee.

f. Mamta Singh – Reskilling grant, strengthening the institution and student body in our department of educational program. Ex: McNair Scholarship.
