PARKING ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING

October 11, 2018

Welcome and opening remarks: Diane Thibodeaux (Mike Spears Substituted)

 

The Parking Advisory Committee will be the eyes and ears for all things regarding parking lots and parking on campus.  Committee will be providing recommendations for improvement of parking on campus. Committee will be making decisions on parking violations and policy. 

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

         UPDATES:

 

  • Update Parking Ticket Forgiveness Program. Question: why the program was not a success?  Answer:

No Advertising in advance.  The campus announcements were not enough.  Needed more social media exposure and maybe signs around campus.  Question:  Do you think the program is worth doing again?

Answer:  yes but need more advanced advertising.

 

  • New Gate Technology for Reserved Lots will be installed and operational for the Fall 2018 semester. All gates were activated on or before Monday 10/8/2018. Everyone was aware of the change.   No comments offered.

 

  • Parking violation appeals process – BossCars will Not allow multiple individuals to comment/approve/deny the appeal. There is only an approve/deny option done by one person. Working on a system to change the appeal process. All members present were handed a copy of all the citations for the month of September.  They were asked to review and make a decision of either accepting or declining the appeal.  They were also asked to return the completed appeals to Diane Thibodeaux on or before November 29th.

 

  • Signage Committee was updated on the progress for style for new signs for parking lots. 3 samples were shown and two or the three with bolder typeface were preferred by all committee members.

 

  • Issuing Reserved Permits for Mail Run The vote by show of hands by all member of the committee was to NOT issue reserved permits for Mail Run needs.

 

  • T-9 Bumpers The committee was updated that there were bumper in the T-9 lot.  Currently the lot is being used by contractors through the month of November.  Once they have vacated the lot the bumpers will be re set and if necessary replaced.

NEW BUSINESS:

 

  • Gate Access Request Form for Reserved Parking Lots A copy of the new form to request a reserved parking lot access card was distributed as an informational item for the committee. A brief explanation was given on it’s purpose.
  •  
  • RECOMMENDATIONS FOR NEXT MEETING DATE & TIME: Second Thursday of each month at 1:30 has been suggested:  All members present were acceptable to meeting on the second Thursday of each month at 1:30 through the end of January.  Then the schedule will need to be reviewed based on class scheduled for the new term.
