I. Call to Order: Dr. Jerry Lin

II. Approval of Minutes: October 2020

III. Updates from the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs Administration (ORSPA):

1. Jerry Lin - Associate Provost for Research

Dr. Lin informs the committee members that this primary goals of this meeting is to plan for the review of IACUC policy draft and have it approved in or before Fall 2021 semester.

2. Emily Born, Compliance Officer

Emily Born would like to update the committee on the past year.   Biology has done a great job letting everyone know the IACUC’s function and purpose.  The committee reviewed and approved various teaching protocols which our office now has on file.  Dr. Pyne and Dr. Yoder felt there may be a few more to reach out to that may be doing other teaching projects and or field studies. 

Emily Born also informs that if member’s terms were going to expire, we would renew those three year terms, unless they objected. Dr. Pyne agrees to have his term renewed.  Emily Born requested any nominations for a new member to replace Ms. Stacie Granger at the end of the summer. 

IV. Board Member Positions:

A new Veterinarian via Dr. Yoder has agreed to serve.  Dr. Danny Hurych of Dowlen Road Veterinary Center.

Emily Born informs the committee that she has spoken via email to Dr. Hurych and he is pleased to serve our committee.  Thank you to Dr. Yoder for the recommendation.  The veterinarian well serve on the committee not only to meet federal requirements, but also as a consultant on how the IACUC committee should function and review protocols insuring humane animal care. 

V. Review and Vote on updated IACUC policies and Procedures.

Dr. Lin informs the committee we have a new updated version of the IACUC policies for the committee to review.  He asks the committee to please review the policies and reach out to us to make any additions or changes.  We hope to have a completed version by the fall of 2021.  After discussion, Emily Born mentions that we may need to add a section regarding field studies. This was agreed and Ms. Born stated she would add a section to the policies. 

 VI. CITI Certification for Board Member

Reminder: If not completed previously, Board Members need to complete the “Essentials for IACUC Members” CITI Course.

All members need to update their IACUC members training.

VII. Other Business Items

Next meeting: October, 2021 unless we have protocol which requires voting.  We will meet a minimum of every 6 months.
