The Graduate Council of Lamar University met in the in the Wimberly Building, Room 219D, Conference Area, at 1:30 p.m. Dr. William Harn, Dean of Graduate Studies, presided. Dr. Ruthie Robinson, Dr. Jimmy Moss, Dr. Tracy Benson, Dr. Iva Hall, Dr. Nick Rissman, and Dr. Dorothy Sisk attended. Also in attendance was Theresa Heffner-Babb from Assessment.

 

MINUTES:

The February (#441) meeting minutes were reviewed by the Graduate Council. Dr. Sisk motioned to approve the documents, Dr. Robinson seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

College of Graduate Studies

Dr. Harn presented an item for discussion to the Graduate Council on the subject of

accepting graduate transfer credit from institutions with and without regional accreditation.

Further discussion on this topic will continue and a plan of action implemented within each college.

 

Dr. Harn suggested to the Council that the Professional Development field be added to the G4 Faculty application for membership for the next review. As he stated, the Professional Development is requested on the F2.08 and should be document on the application for faculty membership. Dr. Robinson motioned to approve, Dr Benson seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

 

Dr. Harn presented the discussion concerning the Grade Replacement Policy Revision. Final decisions surrounding this topic have been forwarded to the College Deans. No further discussion on this topic is needed at this time.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

College of Fine Arts and Communication:

 

Dr. Nick Rissman requested a change in the admission requirements and language in the current catalog on behalf of the Department of Music. Further information from the department was requirement to process the documentation. The Council reviewed the submission. Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Benson seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

 

College of Arts and Sciences:

An interdisciplinary 15-hour graduate-level certificate program in Cybersecurity was proposed and sent via email by the Graduate Dean to Graduate Council on April 10th. A consensus by the Council was made in favor of the new program.

 

Conclusion: The next meeting is on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. in the Wimberly Bldg., Room 219D, Conference Area.
