GRADUATE COUNCIL MINUTES

August 10, 2016

Special Session

The Graduate Council of Lamar University met in Room 102, Galloway Business Bldg., at 2:00 p.m. in the conference room.  Dr. William Harn, Dean of Graduate Studies, presided.  Dr. Jimmy Moss, Dr. Dorothy Sisk, and Dr. Ashwini Kucknoor attended.  Also present was Dr. Tony Martin as Ex Officio.

NEW BUSINESS: 

College of Business

A memo was submitted to the Graduate Council from the College of Business department of Accounting to waive the initial GMAT requirement.   The Graduate Council reviewed the information.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Kucknoor seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

College of Arts and Sciences

Dr. Stefan Andrei brought a presentation to the Graduate Council meeting at the suggestion of

the Provost to demonstrate a more streamlined process of the syllabus for all faculty to utilize.

Dr. Tony Martin attended the meeting in representation of SACS.  Dr. Martin explained to the Graduate Council that Dr. Andrei’s web based tool regarding the syllabus will not only help faculty, but it will also help him in reporting the information to SACS.

Dr. Andrei’s student demonstrated the pilot application to the Graduate Council and offered to install it on their computers so that they could use it and provide feedback.  He will also

demonstrate this application to the Faculty Senate next month.

Conclusion: The next meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. in the Wimberly Bldg., Room 219.
