What do our candidates need?

Dual language

Bob Hope student teachers

Integrity and ethical behavior: social media, don’t friend students

Tattoos and dress code, we don’t want to be their influence

Age teach the codes

Example: welding teacher drove a bus and he had a long sleeve shirt under his t-shirt

Mindset for modeling professional presence

Pictures of what is appropriate and what is not---dress for success

Introduce early in LU career

Work ethic is not there. Arrive when the bell rings and leave when the bell rings

Understanding of what teachers have to do; becoming very organized. Assessments and planning.

Talk about RTI and differentiation, 504, and teacher responsibilities

Question about what happens before clinical teaching

Explained the residency model. Dean wants us to move to this model.

ESL certified trainings

Classroom management and behavioral problems—diagnosed as ED

Social/emotional training---maybe use teach live

Discipline management and classroom routines proactive

New teacher mentor---the devils in the details. How will it look. When they pull out a paper what will it look like?

Planning and have more-

Chrome books should be integrated into lessons

Google classroom

Everything is googled and moving away from office

Be prepared to do a lesson during your application process

Understanding accommodations—and difference between it and modification----practice doing it. Technology fits into it perfectly and use an app for oral administration. GT kids have special needs and they are not always the good kids.

 
What are the most pressing leadership efforts needed in schools by principals?

Issues:

Hardest course is the human resources—selecting teachers, evaluating teachers

Missing the emphasis on curriculum, there is only 2 courses

Get into the Ttess and know the difference between teacher led and student led--- you don’t need to know the content if you understand that students are engaged. Principals need to understand that engagement is key.

Principals need to learn to be good feedback givers and be able to coach their teachers. Coaching is a cross-cutting theme and is across different strands. Coaching----

New laws in education. Cannot fathom being a 3rd year teacher and going through the program. Experience is important before being a principal.
