IAC Meeting

October 18, 2018

 

Attendance:  Bello-Oguno, Born, Bradley, Chu, DuPre, Gummelt, Hamza, Jones,  Mayer, Mulvaney, Spina, Thill,  Wright, Zaloom

Guests (Softball):  Amy Hooks, Madelyn Myers, Elizabeth Castillo

Meeting called to order at 2:00 pm

 

Dr. Chu – Thanked everyone for coming to the meeting and introduced our new Head Softball Coach, Amy Hooks and players Madelyn Myers and Elizabeth Castillo.

 

Amy Hooks – It’s important to be champions in softball, as a student and as a person in life.  Student is in front of athlete.  The fall season, softball will play 8 games, currently played 7.  Inherited a new program and there is a lot of unknown.  The team has embraced new coach with open arms.  Academic goal for the team is to not be below 3.00 as team GPA.

 

Madelyn Myers – Senior – Major is Management Information Systems.  Has no complaints.  The major has a lot of hands-on support.  Professors are always willing to help.  Completing an internship and is able to do this with softball.  Coach has been very accommodating.  After graduation, has obtained a job with Exxon.  After a few years, Exxon will pay for graduate school.  There is a MISY graduate program online.

 

Elizabeth Castillo – Junior – Major is Exercise Science, emphasis in physical therapy.  Enjoy learning and being in the classroom.  Graduate in spring 2020.  Professors always have time to spend with the students.  She had one issue with missing class.  Coach emailed professor and the situation was worked out.

 

Dr. Chu – Introductions of all members.

 

Dr. Bello-Oguno asked about balancing athletics and academics.  Madelyn uses a planner and writes down all assignments.  Stays organized.  The only thing she would do differently was not to get B’s in her honors classes.

 

Mr. Born – Updated on athletics department.  Hired Lucas Milano as the new video operations person.  He will be responsible for all video and scoreboards.  Travis Rae was hired in media relations.  Working on hiring an administrative assistant for basketball and a new executive assistant.

 

Hellas will be completing the new turf at Vincent-Beck Stadium.

 

Montagne locker rooms will be completed just before the basketball seasons start in a couple of weeks.

 

McDonald Gym seats are being replaced.

 

Nutrition center in weight room is being planned and worked on.

 

Still working on funding for building graphics, football turf, softball turf and other projects.

 

The marketing department is on-campus promoting football.  Several promotions at upcoming football games.  They are working on being more creative for families and children to come to games.  Marketing is targeting students in Cardinal Village and will survey the students after the season.  Market the way students want.

 

Lettermen weekend is coming and there are 75 former players signed up.  They will have a meal with the Cardinal Club.

 

We just completed a volleyball reunion and retired Natalie Sarver’s jersey.

 

The NCAA will visit on November 2 for the AASP Grant.  This is the first of several visits over the three years of the grant.

 

Several RFP’s are out.  A future one will be for apparel and to get all sports with one provider.

 

Women’s basketball will have an education game where BISD students will attend.  The game is at noon this season.

 

Mr. Born gave updates on all sports.

 

Men’s and women’s basketball has a combo season ticket package.  Sales are tracking ahead of last season.  Also, we are working on an Olympic sports pass.

 

We are looking at changing up football tailgating and grouping everyone together in one lot.

 

We have 6 home football games in 2019.

 

Students are life blood of the campus.

 

Next meeting is November 15 at 2:00pm
