IAC Meeting

March 17, 2016

Meeting began at 2:01pm

Attendance – Jerry Bradley, Vernice Monroe, Brad Mayer, Moses Dupre’, Hsing Wei Chu, Rose Hubbard, Jason Henderson, Helene Thill, Tracy Benson, Derina Holthousen

Minutes from February approved.

Dr. Chu informed the council that Sharon Williams was retiring on March 31.

Jason discussed the long term GPA form (cumulative and term GPA history) – football is missing and will be added. 

Fall 2015 semester GPA – all but 5 teams have GPA above 3.00.

It was asked if we can compare JC transfers to incoming freshmen.  Jason said we would need to wait until junior year to get a realistic comparison.

The new APR policy was discussed and approved by the Council.

APR and students that transfer out of Lamar University.  If they are at Lamar University for a year and have a 2.60 or higher GPA and transfer immediately to another 4 year institution, we will not lose an APR retention point.

Baseball – Having a successful year during Coach Gilligan’s final year. 

Softball – They started the season hosting a tournament and won the tournament.  We have some good wins and seems to be shaping up to have a successful year.

Men’s Tennis – We have a very good team and have picked up some big wins.  We are looking for a winning season.

Women’s Tennis – They are struggling a bit, but have potential.

Coach Gilligan’s retirement celebration will take place during the reunion weekend on Saturday, May 14.

We are working with Delete Blood Cancer and will be conducting a cheek swab drive during the baseball and softball games on April 15 and 16.

Meeting ended 2:20pm
