Texas Education Agency (TEA) has implemented “new” certifications and changes to the following certification areas:

• EC-12 Physical Education (158 to 258)
• EC-12 Health (157 to 257)
• 7-12 ELAR (231 to 331)

Texas Education Agency (TEA) has implemented new certifications and changes to the following EC-12 Physical Education exam.

• New Physical Education (258) exam that will launch September 2, 2024.
• The last administration for the Physical Education (158) exam will be September 1, 2024.
• Candidates must complete all certification requirements (e.g., course work, practicum) by August 1, 2025.
• Candidates must apply with both Lamar and TEA to be recommended for certification by September 1, 2025.
• If candidates do not meet the above Lamar University and TEA application deadlines, they will take the new Physical Education (258) exam.
• Candidates must submit the TExES application to apply to take the Physical Education (158), no later than August 1, 2024.

Candidates must meet all certification deadlines above; no exceptions will be granted by Lamar or TEA for missed deadlines.

Lamar University will do our part to recommend you for your Standard Certificate with TEA once you have met the requirements above by the deadline. It is the candidate’s responsibility to complete the applications with BOTH Lamar University and TEA to obtain the Standard Certification by the deadline 09/01/2025.
