Ebanks scholarship in accounting established
Lamar University’s accounting majors have a new opportunity to defray their college costs through the recent establishment of the J. Sam and Dr. Elizabeth Ebanks Scholarship in Accounting. The awards will be available in the fall of 2017 thanks to generosity of the Ebanks.
Sam Ebanks graduated from Lamar University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting. While at LU, he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
Sam retired after a full career in accounting for Chevron Corp. He and his wife, Elizabeth, a retired school teacher, make their home in Willis, and own a home in the Cayman Islands.
The couple began building toward the scholarship with the Lamar University Foundation in 2010. They maintain close ties with LU and have earned a place on the Honor Roll of Lamar University Donors for several years.
The scholarship is open to all full time students, who are graduates of any high school in Texas, pursuing their bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA and may remain on the scholarship until graduation subject to standard university procedures.
