LU Opera Theatre presents an evening of musical theatre and operetta
Lamar University’s Opera Theatre will present scenes from musical theatre and operettas featuring works by Gilbert and Sullivan, Stephen Sondheim, Franz Lehar and more at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 13 - 14, in the Rothwell Recital Hall.
All scenes and arias are performed in English with projected supertitles of synopses and other information.
“Solos and small ensembles will take center stage in this production,” said Serdar Ilban, director of LU Opera Theatre and assistant professor of voice in the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music. “The goal is to provide our students an opportunity for cross-genre singing and end up with a musically and dramatically gratifying experience for our audience.”
The performance features selections from Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Mikado,” Lehar’s “Merry Widow” and “Land of Smiles,” Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music,” and “Kismet,” the Broadway musical and film composed by Robert Wright and George Forrest.
Collaborative pianist Sungmee Kim will provide accompaniment for the production.
General admission is $10, and tickets may be reserved in advance. For tickets or more information, call the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music at (409) 880-8144.
