LU bands winter concert

Scott Deppe directing the Wind Ensemble

Lamar University’s acclaimed Wind Ensemble and Concert Band will appear in concert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 24, in the Nederland High School Performing Arts Center. The diverse program includes selections from Thomas Tallis; John Barnes Chance; music from the motion picture, “How to Train Your Dragon”; and much more. Admission is free.

Under the baton of Scott Deppe, director of bands at LU, pictured above, the Wind Ensemble is composed of 56 students from several different colleges and majors throughout the university. Eric Shannon, director of athletic bands, pictured below, conducts the Concert Band, which has 62 members.

Guest conductor at the concert will be Greg Rose, director of bands at Nederland High School, who will direct the Wind Ensemble in a performance of "The Battle of Shiloh" march by C.L. Barnhouse.

The Wind Ensemble was recently honored with an invitation to perform before the Texas Music Educators Association's 2015 Clinic and Convention in February. Only four university bands were invited.

Nederland High School is located at 2101 -18th Street in Nederland. For more information, contact the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music at (409) 880-8144 or lamar.edu/music.
