Purkey Memorial Scholarship established in finance
“Gifts to Lamar University like this endowed memorial scholarship create a perpetual remembrance of the individual being honored. Students receiving the benefit of the scholarship are able to concentrate more on attending class and making excellent grades,” said Larry Allen, chair, of the Department of Finance.
Purkey attended Lamar University earning a bachelor of business administration in finance in 2004 and a master of business administration in 2007. The scholarship was established by gifts from MobilOil Federal Credit Union, colleagues, friends who remember her as a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend.
The bachelor of business administration degree in finance from Lamar University gives students a broad education in financial markets and institutions, investments, and the financial management of for-profit and non-profit organizations. Many finance classes are held in the Fecel Financial Center, a state-of-the-art financial information lab where students manage the $400,000 Lamar University Student Managed Investment Fund.
