LU offers Study Abroad Fair Oct. 13

Lamar University is hosting a Study Abroad Fair Oct. 13 in the Setzer Student Center, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students will learn about the opportunities and the benefits of studying abroad. Faculty members will be present to share about the many faculty-led programs available at LU. Students who studied abroad last year will also attend to share their experiences.

Numerous grants, scholarships and fellowships are available for study abroad, including the LU Study Abroad Fee Grant, and the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program that provides scholarships to U.S. undergraduates with financial need for study abroad, including students from diverse backgrounds and students going to non-traditional study abroad destinations. Information about these opportunities will be available at the Study Abroad Fair.

LU plans to offer 20 different faculty-led programs and some semester exchange opportunities this coming year for students of all levels, said Jeff Palis, director of global studies and study abroad. The Study Abroad office is working to better meet students’ needs by broadening the range of times study abroad opportunities are offered to include spring break, summer terms, the May Mini, and the regular fall/spring semesters, Palis said.

While maintaining successful study arrangements in China, France, England, Spain and Italy, the Study Abroad office is expanding the 2016 programs for engineering and business majors, as well as students in professional fields like nursing and education, and is offering programs to new locations in Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Africa.
