Office of Undergraduate Research calls for Research Expo abstracts
The Lamar University Office of Undergraduate Research is calling for abstracts for the second Undergraduate Research Expo to be held on April 20. The expo will be held in the Ballroom of the Student Setzer Center 11:00 a.m.- 4 p.m. Abstracts are due by midnight on March 31.
“We believe that student research presentations provide an important opportunity for students to share findings with other undergraduates and faculty members,” said Kumer Das, director of the Office of Undergraduate Research. “This annual event will recognize and promote student scholarly activities in research and creative production and celebrate collaboration among faculty and students within and across disciplines.”
Abstracts can be sent via email to jasmine.fields@lamar.edu or kumer.das@lamar.edu or submitted online https://www.lamar.edu/forms/undergraduate-research/expo-registration.html Abstracts should be a maximum of 250 words and include a title, methodology, data collection if applicable, results of the study if completed, the conclusions and implications of the study and the student’s preference of poster or oral presentation. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by April 13.
The Expo is open to all undergraduate students wishing to make presentations. The Expo will also include presentations from the 15 recently announced Office of Undergraduate Research Grant Recipients for 2014-15.
“Many students from different disciplines have talked with me,” Das said. “We expect to receive abstracts from all disciplines.”
The Expo will be open to the public, including students from area high schools and will feature remarks from Kenneth Evans, LU president, and Steve Doblin LU provost.
