Forums set for LU engineering dean candidates

The search for the next dean of the College of Engineering at Lamar University has reached its final stages. 

The search process began In September 2014 when an advisory search committee consisting of representatives of Lamar University faculty, staff and students as well as the college’s external advisory council was formed. The university engaged Greenwood/Asher & Associates, Inc. of Miramar Beach, Florida to assist in the search process.

Four finalists for the position who have been screened and selected by the advisory search committee as qualified for campus visits will visit the campus.  Each finalist will participate in an open forum on campus with students, faculty and staff Feb. 23 through March 2. 

Srinivas Palanki, chair of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of South Alabama met in a forum Feb. 23.

James Palmer, professor of chemical engineering at Louisiana Tech University and associate dean of graduate studies for the College of Engineering and Science will meet 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., Room 3204, Charles and Eleanor Garrett Engineering Center, Feb. 25.

John Via, associate dean of engineering, department head of Engineering Management Studies, founding director of Systems Engineering Program, College of Engineering, Drexel University, Philadelphia, will meet 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., 6th Floor of the Mary and John Gray Library, Feb. 26.

Beena Sukumaran, professor and chair of civil and environmental engineering, College of Engineering, Glassboro, New Jersey, will meet 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., Room 3204, Charles and Eleanor Garrett Engineering Center, March 2.
