The College of Fine Arts and Communication at Lamar University will host Le Grand Bal, March 23 at 6 p.m. in the Dishman Art Museum and the Setzer Student Center.

The event will begin with a silent auction at the Dishman Art Museum from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with bidding starting at 7:15 p.m. The event continues with dinner in the Setzer Student Center from 7 p.m. to midnight. The dinner will include music by Newboyz.

Le Grand Bal is organized by the Friends of the Arts. The organization was established in 1973 and staged its first ball in 1975.

Dennis Kiel, Dishman Art Museum director, said Le Grand Bal raises money primarily for scholarships.

“The College of Fine Arts and Communication is, obviously, the Communication Department, Theatre & Dance, Music, Speech & Hearing, Deaf Studies, KVLU, you’ve got University Press — there are a lot of departments in the college,” he said. “It just helps encourage students to come (to Lamar), by giving scholarships. All the money goes for that.”
