BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University's women's basketball team will continue their season as they were selected as one of 32 teams to play in the inaugural Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament. The Cardinals will fly up to Pullman, Wash., to take on one of the number one seeds in the Washington State Cougars of the PAC-12.

The WBIT Selection Show was streamed on NCAA.com and the Cardinals had to wait 10 slots before their name was announced under WSU. The first round matchup between the schools will take place on March 21st at the Beasley Coliseum. The time for the game has yet to be announced. Should LU win their matchup against the Huskies, they will take on either Santa Clara or BYU in the second round on the 24th. The tournament games will also be broadcasted on ESPN+.

This is LU's first postseason appearance since 2019 when the Cardinals took on South Alabama in the WNIT.

The Cardinals earned this bid by winning the regular season Southland Conference title posting a 17-1 record to go along with their 24-6 overall record. This included a 14-game winning streak which stretched into the conference tournament semifinals against Texas A&M-Commerce. LU reached the conference championship game for the second straight season.
