Cardinals Pound PVAMU for 10th-Straight Win

BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University scored 13 runs on 13 hits, led by Tanner Wilson 3-of-3 (2B, RBI, 2 runs) effort at the plate to defeat the Panthers, 13-3, Tuesday evening in a run-rule contest. It was the 10th consecutive victory for the Red and White as they improve to 16-4 (.800) on the season.

Not only did the Lamar pick up its 10th-straight win, but the Cards also improved to 10-1 (.909) at home.

Eight different Cardinals recorded a hit Tuesday led by four players with multi-hit efforts. In addition to Wilson, Brayden Evans was 2-for-4 (2B, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), River Orsak (2-for-4, 2B, 2 runs, RBI) and Drake Varnado (2-for-3, 2B, run) each recorded at least two hits.

Trhea Morse got the start for LU and went 2.0 scoreless allowing just one hit and two walks with a strikeout. He was relieved by Kyle Moseley (2-0) in the third inning. Moseley pitched two perfect frames with a couple of punch outs to pick up the win. He was one of seven different Cardinals to take the mound in the victory.

Tyson Carlton suffered the loss for PVAMU after allowing four runs on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work. The Panthers managed just three runs on two hits. The PVAMU defense struggled with five errors on the night.

The game was scoreless through 2.5 innings before the Cardinals broke the scoreless tie with four runs in the third. The four-run inning began a stretch four-straight at-bats with at least a run scored – including a five-run sixth and a two-run eighth.

Lamar scored four runs on four hits in the third which all got started on a leadoff single from Wilson. The bases were loaded just two batters later following a Varnado double and a Kanin Dodge walk. The first run of the night came on a sacrifice fly before the Cardinals got back-to-back doubles from Evans and Orsak.

After taking on a run in each of the next two innings, the Cardinals were back on the attack in the sixth. Lamar plated five runs on three hits and took advantage of three PVAMU errors to blow the game open. PVAMU had no answer despite a three-run seventh inning.

The Cardinals took advantage of the eight-game home stand and will now look to continue their streak on the road. Lamar will open Southland Conference play Friday at Houston Christian with a three-game series. Game one is slated for a 2 p.m. first pitch. Friday's game will streamed live on ESPN+.
