At Lamar Theatre: 'Bye Bye Birdie' Showing

“Bye Bye Birdie,” a musical comedy about teenagers and their parents, opened Wednesday in the Lamar Theatre.

Other performances will be at 8 p.m. today and tomorrow. Admission is by activity card for Lamar Tech students and faculty members and general admission is $1.50 for adults and $1.00 for high school students and children. 

Reservations may be made by calling TE 8-6671, extension 336 any weekday between 8 a.m. and 12 noon and 1 to 5 p.m.

Featured in the cast are Ronnie Abshire of Port Arthur as “Albert Peterson;” Caroline Goodrich, Beaumont, “Rosie Alvarez;” Donna Giesen, Port Arthur, “Kim MacAfee;” and Jack Dowding, Los Angeles, Calif., in the title role. 

Since the cast includes many experienced dancers, including Abshire and Miss Goodrich, all dance members will be done in their entirety, according to S. Walker James, associate professor of music. 

White A. Jacob, assistant pro-director, and Mrs. Vera Campbell, assistant professor of speech is in charge of costumes for the production. More than 30 people are involved in preparing and running lighting, scenery, properties and other technical effects for the show’s 17 scenes.

The versatility of the Lamar Theatre’s flexible stage is shown as main stage, apron, balconies, etc. are put to use for the April 26-29 performances, Mr. Jacob noted. 

Jim Meldrum, Orange, is stage manager for the production, assisted by Joe Giarratano, O. range.

Scene shifts will be made by a crew composed of David O’Fiel, David Hooker, Perry Riley, Jr., Greg Mullins, Don Walker, Nelson Price, Darell Thompson, Larry Quinn, Thomas Granger and Norman Campbell. 

Lighting effects will be controlled by Hoyt Simmons, Jayme Moore, Mike Phillips, Judy Simmons and Mary Martha Rice. 

Building and painting scenery are Perry Riley, Hoyt Simmons, Larry Quinn, David Hooker, Mary Martha Rice, Linda Tipton, Esther Guillory, Robert Stegall, Jayme Moore and Judy Simmons. Properties crew members are Barbara Starr, Rise Lind, Esther Guillory, Ronald Sacks and Linda Tipton.

Costume design and coordination is under the supervision of Mrs. Vera Campbell, assistant professor of speech, assisted by Daneta O’Brien. The make-up crew is composed of Melinda Hay, Clytie Rudeseal and Suellen Williams.
