‘Date Night at the Drive-In’ to benefit LU film students

Romancing the Stone

Light Strike Productions, in partnership with World Gym Fitness Center, will host “Date Night at the Drive-In," Sept. 19, at 229 Dowlen Rd, Ste 5 in Beaumont. The event will screen the 1984 movie, “Romancing the Stone.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit Red Beak Productions, a new student organization at Lamar University. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. and there will be food, drinks and raffle drawings. Raffles prizes will include gift certificates to World Gym, Tia Juanitas, J.Wilson’s, Koi, Bruno’s Winery and more.

“It’s a free event,” Ethan Scroggs, film major and Port Neches senior, said. “The proceeds from the donations, raffles, food, and drinks will go towards Red Beak Production.”

Red Beak Productions will offer opportunities for students  to make short films and other projects.

“The money from this event will help us go to Dripping Springs, where we will be doing a short film with our professor, Jeremy Hawa,” Scroggs said. “We’ll be working with industry professionals, and this is a great opportunity for students to go out and learn and be on a film set. We’ll be able to gain experience, put this on our résumés, and learn a bunch that we won’t get to in a classroom setting.”

Light Strike Productions is owned by Hawa.
