Gideon Crump
Gideon Crump is a first-generation college student who is paving the way for his family. “I’m leading the pack, because I didn’t want to be part of the people that didn’t go — I want to be the one to say, ‘I went, so y’all should go,’” he says. With his wife’s help and encouragement through his community, he’s able to get through the rugged areas of life. “Community is like, aside from God being the foundation, they’re the ones that are feeding you, hopefully the right thing, and man, I don’t even know what I’d do without, my friends. And it’s funny, that all it comes down to is just friendship, and loving somebody well, ”Gideon said. “So I’m able to balance work and school by, like, having support from my wife Hannah, because since she’s in school, too, we can have study dates,” he says. Even though the future is unknown, his first step is to get his degree. “I’m still trying to figure out which way to go. But either way, I’ll have a bachelor’s before I’m 32,” he says.
