People: Magical Mickey Ears

Jayna LacyJayna Lacy

Ever since she was a little girl, Jayna Lacy has had a passion for Disney. Growing up, there was always a Disney movie playing on her family’s television, she says. “I have loved it ever since I saw ‘The Lion King’ and ‘Peter Pan.’ When I was five, my parents took me to Disney World for the first time and that’s how my passion for Disney began,” the Port Neches junior says. After graduating high school, Jayna went back to Disney and bought her first pair of Mickey Mouse ears. Little did she know, one pair would soon turn into an entire collection. “I have 21 pairs of Mickey ears,” she says. “I have either got them from the parks or as gifts, and some I have won from Instagram giveaways.” When the Lamar communications major was 19, she got the opportunity of a lifetime — she was chosen for an internship at Disney as a character attendant. “I was one of the people who got to hang out with the characters,” she says. “Every day was great and exciting because I got to work with the characters that I grew up admiring — it turned out to be one of the best jobs I have ever had.” As Walt Disney said “If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember this whole thing was started by a mouse.”
