The Texas Academy administration uses Lamar University email as the primary method of communication. Lamar University provides all students with an LU email account: Microsoft Outlook. Students are required to activate and check daily their Lamar University email account or forward the emails to their personal non-Lamar University email accounts. All Lamar University communication (including financial aid, housing and emergency alerts) will be sent to the students’ LU email addresses. Students are reminded to inform Texas Academy staff immediately of cell phone or email address changes.
Further, students should download the LiveSafe app and connect with Lamar University for important notices as it relates to emergency alerts, campus closures, severe weather, etc. LiveSafe is a direct connection to the Lamar University Police Department. Report tips, contact emergency officials and request someone to watch you walk from point A to point B to ensure you arrive safely.
Students who become ill or are injured during the day, excluding emergencies, may independently visit the Lamar University Health Center (phone: 409-880-8466). The Health Center hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. - 3 p.m., Friday. If a health problem occurs when the health center is closed, the student should contact the student services coordinator.
Students and their parents are expected to immediately report any medical conditions and/or medications as they are diagnosed and/or prescribed in order to update the student’s medical information.
LUPD uses an emergency alert system to notify the LU community of emergency situations, inclement weather closures and other important public safety information. Alerts are sent to the contact information saved in your Self-Service Banner account. Learn how to update your Self-Service Banner (PDF). It is imperative that every student, faculty and staff member receives these emergency notifications. So, it's very important that you keep this information up-to-date. In case of a hurricane evacuation, Texas Academy staff will inform students and parents of evacuation plans via email. Students and parents are reminded to inform the Texas Academy staff immediately of any email changes. Parents without email access must give the Texas Academy administration current and viable telephone numbers for immediate contact.
Parents and students should contact the Texas Academy administration in the case of the death or serious injury of an immediate family member (i.e., parent/guardian, sibling or grandparent).Texas Academy will notify all appropriate faculty members of the emergency. A Weekend Travel Request form, available at the Texas Academy office, must be completed and signed by a parent/guardian before a student is permitted to leave campus.
