Parents Council

The Parents Council is made up of active parent volunteers and helps the Office of New Student and Leadership Programs host campus and recruitment events. The Parents Council represents all parents of current students and acts as a liaison between parents and Lamar University.

The Council communicates important information to the Parents Association about Lamar University processes, deadlines, and news, including the multiple opportunities parents have to get involved on campus and upcoming events.

With the continued growth of the Parents Association, the need for more parent participation to support our Lamar University families is a core value of this department. As we increase the opportunities and activities for parents to be involved, the role of the Parents Council is a vital partnership. These opportunities include, but are not limited to:

  • Move-In Day at the residence halls
  • Fall and Spring Parent & Family Weekends
  • Supporting at recruiting events in late fall and early spring for students (and parents) interested in entering LU
  • Email and phone campaigns
  • Speaking with parents of incoming LU students at New Student Orientations

The Role of Parents Council Members

The Parents Council meets up to five times a year for campus and recruitment events and Council meetings. Council members are active and visible representatives of the Parents Association dedicated to welcoming new parents into the Parents Association and creating opportunities for parents to have a supportive community.
