Make plans now to join the Office of Civic Engagement in March 2017 as we head out to our fourth annual Alternative Spring Break!

Alternative Spring Break is an all-expenses paid, volunteer service project held during Spring Break each year. Past destinations include Hot Springs, Arkansas and New Orleans, Louisiana. We partner with Community Collaborations International, a national non-profit organization that provides opportunities for volunteers to provide disaster relief, environmental service, and other services.

Past Adventures

  • helped build new houses
  • worked at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore
  • served meals at the Jackson House Crisis Intervention Center
  • distributed energy efficient light bulbs with Green Light New Orleans
  • explored historic Hot Springs and New Orleans
  • watched “The World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade”
  • cleaned up pollution with the Louisiana Bucket Brigade

How Do I Apply?

  • be available from March 16 to March 19
  • be currently enrolled at Lamar University
  • complete the online application by February 15, 2017
  • space is limited and participants will be chosen based on the strength of their applications
