Financial Aid

The first step in determining eligibility for financial aid is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using Lamar University’s code (003581). The FAFSA will be used to calculate your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). For priority consideration, apply for financial aid no later than March 31 each year. For more information, visit LU Financial Aid.

Most Lamar University scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement. We also consider extra-curricular activities such as marching band and athletics in awarding some Lamar University scholarships.

Students eligible for these waivers and exemptions include former foster children, blind and deaf students, and military veterans from Texas. For more information on waivers and exemptions, visit the College for All Texans page.

Tuition costs are lower for Texas residents. Residents of states bordering Texas (Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma) pay in-state tuition rates plus $30 per credit hour. Residents of other U.S. states and other countries pay out-of-state tuition.

Residency is determined prior to enrollment using rules and regulations established by state officials. Download the Core Residency Form, complete and mail to:
