Voting in local, state, and national elections is one of your important duties—and rights—as a citizen. According to the Pew Research Center, college-aged voters account for almost one-third of the eligible voting population—so your vote matters.
The non-partisan, non-profit Vote.org gives a very clear overview and will answer many of your questions about registration and voting.
If voting in person, check with your local election authority to find your specific polling place.
You must vote wherever you are registered to vote. If you registered in Beaumont but are living at home
this semester, you may need to change your registration – or vice versa. Check to see where you are registered, and make a change (if necessary).
Nov. 3, 2020 is the General Election in Texas.
Early voting is open from October 13 to October 30. Dates and hours may vary based on where you live. Find your polling place.
All requests to vote by mail must be received by noon on Friday, October 23, 2020. However, you should request a mail in ballot as far in advance as possible. It will be sent to the address where you have registered.

The 1998 Higher Education Act requires all post-secondary institutions to make a good-faith effort to distribute voter registration forms to each degree- or certificate-seeking student who attends classes on campus. The forms, which are supplied by each state, must be distributed before the registration cut-off date for every federal and gubernatorial election, as well as special elections for federal office.
In 2008, the Higher Education Act was amended making it permissible to electronically distribute information related to voter registration.
At Lamar University, voter registration forms are available at info tables sponsored by the Student Government Association and the Jefferson County Board of Elections. Voter registration forms can also be requested online through the Vote Texas website. The Student Government Association values civic responsibility as part of their Strategic Plan.
Any student not registered to vote can get more information at votetexas.gov. For information about the Jefferson County Board of Elections, visit their website.
