LU Omegas impact change in SETX through community service

The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s "Omega Week" is coming up, so there’s no better time than the present to highlight one of the cardinal qualities of the organization and its members: the ability to uplift, exhibited through an unwavering dedication to community service.

“We are deeply intertwined with Beaumont and its surrounding areas through the schools, food banks and churches,” said LU senior Daniel Johnson, keeper of records and seals for the Upsilon Theta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi. “As Omega men, we uplift our community, persevere through societal issues, aid those who are unaware and maintain scholastic achievements.”

The LU Omegas have partnered with numerous organizations on campus, including Poetic Souls, Man-Up and other Greek Organizations in order to make their presence felt and maximize their efforts in community service, most recently participating in the LU Multicultural Community festival, as well as an "Adopt-A-Street" community clean-up with Smith Middle and the Harvest for Lost Souls Church.

“Personally, I’ve always loved getting involved with the school and the community around to make it a better and safer place,” Johnson said. “Specifically, our chapter commits to community service because helping those who are in need influences the growth of the community.”

Omega Week will be in effect from Oct. 23-30, where the chartering of the fraternity will be celebrated and students will be exposed to a diverse week of Omega-themed programming and events.
