Lamar University faculty and staff share skills with the community
Four members of the Lamar University faculty and staff are featured speakers at Southeast Texas Nonprofit Development Center workshops.
Andre Favors, an instructor in the Department of Communication, is teaching “Public Speaking & Beyond: The Nonprofit Version.” Favors will share tools of the communicator’s trade to help nonprofit leaders have a greater impact on their audiences through verbal communication. The workshop will be Wed., July 17 from 2-4 p.m. at the Foundation for Southeast Texas, 700 North St., in downtown Beaumont.
On Thurs., July 25 from 1-4 p.m. Dr. Alicen Flosi will present “Excelling Your Nonprofit with Excel.” Flosi is the director of sustainability and an expert in Excel. She will present a hands-on workshop demonstrating best practices for using Excel to manage your nonprofit data. The workshop will be in the Center for Innovation, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship on the Lamar University campus.
Staff members Bri Gore and Hannah Snodgrass will offer “How to Reach Donors and Raise Awareness,” on Thurs., Aug. 8 from 2-4 p.m. at the Foundation for Southeast Texas, 700 North St., in downtown Beaumont. Both Gore and Snodgrass work in Lamar University’s Office of Marketing Communications. Gore is Lamar University’s social media manager who enjoys working with organizations to create sincere and ethical marketing strategies. Snodgrass is a marketing associate who has experience in grassroots advocacy, government relations and managing social media. The two will teach nonprofit leaders how to get more for their money by creating an integrated campaign strategy for Facebook and other social media platforms to raise awareness for their organizations and engage with potential donors. Special focus will be given to developing audience specific messaging, crisis management and ethical/legal restrictions.
“We’re thrilled that Lamar University’s faculty and staff members are willing to share their knowledge and resources with our membership,” said Deborah Drago, the executive director of the Southeast Texas Nonprofit Development Center.
