Public invited to engineering Senior Design Symposium

The Lamar University College of Engineering will host the 2nd annual Senior Design Symposium Thursday 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the University Event Center, 8th floor Mary and John Gray Library, capping off the school year with more than 40 projects engineering students have months preparing. The event is free and open to the public.

“Senior Design Symposium is the culmination of an entire year filled with planning, designing and building to compete for the ultimate prize of having the top project,” says Srinivas Palanki, dean of the College of Engineering, “I’ve seen instances in industry where hiring candidates will use their senior design experience as part of their resume. This is a wonderful opportunity not only for our students, but for the public to come and experience why Lamar Engineering continues to excel.”

On display at the Senior Design Symposium will be 44 group projects from all five engineering disciplines at Lamar University, including: 8 chemical engineering projects, 4 civil and environmental engineering projects, 13 electrical engineering, 9 industrial engineering, and 10 mechanical engineering projects ranging from concepts for crude oil expansions for local refineries to a washing machine built for space that kills bacteria using only light.

Senior Design Symposium is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to browse projects, ask students questions and stay for the award ceremony.
