LU releases Spring 2017 enrollment figures

Lamar University set another all-time Spring headcount record, officials announced today.

The university’s total headcount reached 14,103 up over the Spring 2016 headcount of 14,056, while semester credit hours (SCH) fell slightly with 151,674 compared to last Spring’s 152,256, a decrease of .38 percent.

Compared to Spring 2016, all of the colleges except engineering experienced growth in majors.  The College of Business led the way with a 5.75 percent increase, followed by the College of Arts and Sciences at 2.12 percent.

“A quick glance indicates that growth occurred in Educational Leadership, up 236 majors (or 11.53 percent); in dual credit enrollments, up 169 (97.13 percent, housed in Arts and Sciences); and in online M.B.A. students, up 52 (38.81 percent),” said Kevin Smith, senior associate provost.

Lamar’s College of Business also led in Semester Credit Hour growth, up 6.31 percent; followed by Education and Human Development at 2.98 percent.  The other colleges had fewer SCHs compared to last year, Smith said.
