Earth Week video contest announced

Lamar University’s Office of Sustainability will observe Earth Week April 17-28, and is sponsoring a Student Sustainability Video Contest to help share the key concepts of sustainability.

“This year, we will host our second sustainability video contest,” said Alicen Flosi, director of sustainability at the university. “In these student-conceived, -shot and -edited videos they can share creative ideas and concepts that encourage recycling and recognize the importance of sustainability.”

The contest allows students to compete for cash prizes by submitting a short video about sustainability topics, such as recycling, to the LU Green Squad Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1530819970523841/).

Students must follow the rules and guidelines in order to place: videos must be no longer than 5 minutes; at least one person in the video must be a current LU student; must not contain violence, blood, etc.; must have clean language. Videos will be posted on Facebook by noon on April 16. Voting will end at noon on April 19.

Winners will be announced the following day on the LU Green Squad Facebook page, with a first place prize of $750, second place prize of $500, and third place prize of $250.

Earth Week will advance LU Sustainability’s mission to strengthen campus initiatives and participation in sustainability efforts, encourage the efficient use of resources and expand community outreach.
