Construction management program community service project

Students use sureveying equipmentThe Lamar University Reese Construction Management Program will be working on their annual community service project at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Tyrell Park located at 5305 Tyrell Park Rd. in Beaumont. The construction management students will frame and pour four 10’X15’ concrete pads at the park near the cricket pitch.  The construction management program has partnered with the City of Beaumont Parks and Recreation department for this project.  The City of Beaumont will place bleachers or park benches on the concrete slabs so spectators can watch the cricket games.

“Each long semester we plan for a community service project to underscore the need for students to give back to the community,” said Steven McCrary, director of the Reese Construction Management Program.  “It also gives our students an opportunity to use the skills they learn in the classroom in a real-world, real-time setting.”

Past community projects have included building handicap accessible ramps for underserved populations and constructing picnic tables at other City of Beaumont park facilities.  The Reese Construction Management Program was established through a gift to the Investing In The Future comprehensive campaign from Jerry and Sheila Reese.
